The National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has stressed that the spiritual gains made during Ramadan must translate into meaningful behavioural change for the benefit of society.
In a message on March 19, 2026, he cautioned that fasting holds little value if it does not lead to a transformation in character.
“The quantity of spiritual cleansing acquired in the Holy Month of Ramadan is meaningless unless it has the capacity to guarantee the quality of attitudinal transformation in the interest of society,” he stated.
According to him, the essence of fasting, as prescribed in the Quran, is to instill piety, discipline, and moral uprightness in believers, values he said must be evident in daily interactions and respect for the law.

He urged Muslims to carry forward the virtues of patience, humility, and self-restraint cultivated during Ramadan into their lives beyond the fasting period.
The Chief Imam also called on all Ghanaians, irrespective of religious backgrounds, to embrace patriotism, humanitarianism, and a shared sense of responsibility in building a peaceful and cohesive nation.
As Muslims celebrate Eid, he advised that festivities be conducted in a manner that reflects modesty and respect for societal norms, while also offering prayers for peace, justice, and prosperity for Ghana and the wider world.
“Let your festivities remain within the bounds of decency, modesty, and legality,” he indicated.
