Kwame Nkrumah plan this long ago but our visionless leaders can’t think. If not possible for government, prepare the land and privatize it and let those individuals produce and subsidize for the country. Every developed country helps their farmers to encourage them produce. This then employ more people and reduce poverty which benefits all. Ghana has fertile land than Burkina Faso and can produce more tomatoes if only things are in place. Where is our Agric Universities and colleges, farms and individual investors, good time to invest and gain from vegetable cultivation not only tomatoes.
Youths, time to get serious to produce and make better income and avoid loitering around for easy money.

So Ghana now knows that without Burkina Faso there will be no fresh tomatoes on its markets. What became of the tomato-processing factory Nkrumah built somewhere in Northern Ghana 70 years ago? I guess it is rusted, vandalised or has just vanished from the face of the earth.
After 70 years we are still unable to produce tomatoes- well very little - to feed ourselves which is so sad. Why? Because tomato is one of the easiest vegetable, some say fruit, to grow.
You know what? I live in a country where the tomato growing season is only five months long. Each season I plant about 25 tomatoes on my little patch and harvest enough fruits for bottling, eating them fresh and giving a lot away to friend and neighbours. And to repeat all that is from a patch one meter by six.
Ghana is blessed with a climate that can produce more than two crops of tomatoes every year. And if Burkina Faso wants to produce for its tomato factories, why don't we seize this opportunity to produce tomatoes for our own use?
Instead of worshipping "private planes" why don't we acquire a few tractors to till the soil for tomatoes? If we do that simple thing we will have enough tomatoes within six months to replace the imports from Burkina Faso, wouldn't we?
Unfortunately we sit on our hands and think of a "diplomatic" engagement. Don't we envisage that Burkina Faso is not going to mothball its factory in order to satisfy Ghana's tomato appetite before we engage in this obviously fruitless diplomacy?
