Brazilian defender Thiago Silva is mourning the death of his mother, Angela Maria da Silva, in a heartbreaking week for his family.
The veteran centre-back shared the news with an emotional message on Instagram on Saturday, March 14, 2026, expressing disbelief at the loss.
“My little mom, I can't believe it. Unbelievable How could this be? You're going to be missed so much,” Silva wrote.
The tragedy means Silva will miss Sunday’s Portuguese I Liga fixture between FC Porto and Moreirense at the iconic Estádio do Dragão.
The 70-year-old’s passing has left the defender dealing with a wave of grief, and he is still deciding when he will travel to Brazil to be with the family during this difficult period.
What makes the moment even more painful is the timing. The bereavement comes just five days after Silva’s family lost another loved one; the mother of his wife, Isabelle Silva.

On Saturday, Isabelle, a social media influencer, also paid tribute to Angela Maria da Silva online, writing that the family was still trying to process the loss.
She described the late matriarch as someone who would be deeply missed and said the family would forever cherish the memories they shared with her, ending her message with a prayer for her soul to rest in peace.
