An aide to the NPP Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has called for a thorough review of all past audit reports to hold officials accountable for their actions.
Her comments follow the Auditor-General's Report on government arrears and payables, which has sparked a debate over the management of billions in claims from contractors and suppliers.
The report verified GH¢45.4 billion of GH¢68.7 billion in claims, rejected GH¢8.1 billion due to irregularities, and left GH¢13.3 billion still under review.
“In this case, GH₵8 billion was dismissed in the debt audit. It cannot be that someone creates this situation only for the audit to find it untrue. Moreover, there are claims that date back several years,” she emphasised.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Manu asserted that investigations and sanctions should not be confined to a specific timeframe, according to a report from citinewsroom.com.
She advocated for accountability across all administrations and previous reports to enhance public financial management and restore confidence in governance.
“If we are going to impose sanctions, we shouldn’t start from just one specific timeframe. We need to go back to the beginning. Ultimately, we all agree that people should be held accountable, but it should not be limited to a certain period. We need to review all reports and hold individuals accountable. This is the only way Ghana can move forward,” she stated.
