The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has shared how a personal encounter with God transformed his life and leadership journey, urging Christians to live lives that reflect Christ-like values.
Speaking at the Lausanne Christian Leadership Summit in Accra, Bagbin recounted a defining moment in his early years as a young lawyer when he made a decision to abstain from alcohol, a choice he said marked the beginning of a deeper spiritual transformation.
According to him, surrendering his life to God has been the foundation of his personal growth and professional success.
“When you surrender your entire life to God, He empowers you and raises you up,” Bagbin said. “Reflecting on my personal encounter with God, my life has been transformed and has been on an upward trajectory ever since.”
Call to Embrace Technology
In his address, the Speaker also highlighted the importance of embracing technology in national development. He urged Ghanaians to take advantage of digital tools such as artificial intelligence to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
Bagbin encouraged the responsible use of technology, stressing that when used wisely, it can unlock opportunities and help individuals reach their full potential.
Support for Faith-Based Initiatives
The Speaker further pledged his support for organisations working towards the welfare and development of citizens, particularly vulnerable communities.
He assured participants that his office remains open to faith-based organisations committed to national development and reaffirmed his readiness to collaborate with the Lausanne Movement in advancing initiatives that benefit society.
Call for Integrity and Unity in the Global Church
The Global Chief Executive Officer of the Lausanne Movement, Michael Oh, also urged Christian leaders to uphold integrity, unity, and authentic faith in their leadership.
He noted that while the global church possesses immense potential, its impact will only be realised if leaders overcome divisions and work together with a shared commitment to God’s mission.
“It’s time for Christian leaders to take responsibility for the global church,” Dr. Oh said. “We must empower the next generation and be willing to do the hard work necessary to bring long-term fruit.”
He emphasised that faith marked by integrity, beauty, and unity could spark a global awakening capable of advancing the mission of the church.
Strengthening Global Christian Collaboration
The President of the Ghana Evangelical Missions Association, Godwin Ahlijah, said the Lausanne Movement is committed to strengthening collaboration among Christians worldwide.
According to him, the movement seeks not only to unite believers but also to serve communities, especially rural areas and unreached people groups.
He noted that empowering young people to adopt transformative lifestyles remains a key priority.
“Every little soul matters to God,” Rev. Ahlijah said, stressing the movement’s commitment to reaching individuals across all backgrounds.
Workplace Faith Initiative
Delivering the keynote address, former Chairman of the The Church of Pentecost and board member of the Lausanne Movement, Opoku Onyinah, outlined the objectives of the strategic leadership engagement.
He explained that the upcoming Lausanne Workplace Forum will focus on equipping business professionals to demonstrate Christian values in their workplaces.
According to him, the initiative aims to strengthen collaboration among churches and promote unity in advancing the message of Christ.
Social Media and Evangelism
Meanwhile, the International President of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International, Francis Owusu, called on Christians to actively engage in evangelism.
He stressed that believers are called to be “soul winners, not pew warmers,” urging church leaders to strategically use social media platforms to reach young people who are increasingly influenced by online content.
Owusu emphasised that evangelism is not optional but a fundamental responsibility for every Christian, calling on leaders to equip believers with the tools needed to effectively share their faith in the digital age.
