Commuters and motorists were left stranded for hours in heavy traffic around the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra following the commencement of rehabilitation works in the area.
The rehabilitation works, which the Ministry of Roads and Highways says are expected to last four months, have resulted in road diversions that have narrowed traffic lanes.

The traffic congestion is due to ongoing rehabilitation along portions of the N1 Highway, particularly the stretch connecting the Accra-Tema Motorway to the Dzorwulu area.
Under temporary traffic management measures introduced for the project, vehicles moving from Madina towards Independence Avenue have been redirected onto a three-lane section on the opposite side of the road heading towards Accra.
This arrangement has effectively reduced the normally six-lane dual carriageway to a single carriageway, contributing to severe congestion in the area.
A visit to the scene by GhanaWeb on Monday, March 9, 2026, showed long queues of vehicles, with commuters heading to work and other daily activities stranded in the heavy traffic.
