The Ghana Police Service has announced the temporary closure of some roads in Accra ahead of the country’s 69th Independence Day celebrations.
In a post shared on X on 5 March 2026, the police stated that the affected roads include Liberation Road from the Opeibea Intersection towards the Central Business District, Independence Avenue at the Ako Adjei Interchange bypass, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
The police also shared alternative routes that motorists can use while these roads remain temporarily closed.

According to the statement, motorists intending to use Independence Avenue will be diverted through the Kanda Highway to Ring Road Central and then proceed to the 37 Military Hospital Intersection.
It further advised that motorists using Liberation Road should use Kaokudi Road through the Kanda Highway to connect to Barnes Road towards the Central Business District, or alternatively use Giffard Road towards Osu.
The police also advised the general public to plan their journeys in advance to avoid being stranded.

“The police further advise motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and use alternative routes where necessary,” the statement said.
It also warned that no vehicle will be allowed to park in unauthorised places along the affected roads.
