The Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, has revealed the real reason behind his visit to Ghana.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Dr Drew said listening to President John Dramani Mahama’s 2025 address at the United Nations was one of the key reasons for his trip.
President Mahama to embark on State visit to Zambia
“One of the things that sparked my interest in Ghana was listening to the President's address at the United Nations in 2025. The depth of his presentation was quite inspiring. For those of you who have not listened to it, I encourage you to do so,” he disclosed.
According to him, President Mahama’s speech went beyond inspiring words and produced tangible outcomes, raising Africa’s profile and influence at the United Nations while helping the continent advance its agenda on the global stage.
“But it was not only a speech. Coming out of that speech is something tangible that we are now moving forward with at the United Nations level,” he said.
Describing his visit as more than a diplomatic engagement, Dr Drew said it felt like a personal journey home.
“…My visit here, on another level, is really about coming back home. As I drove through Ghana, I couldn’t tell the difference between being in St Kitts and Nevis and being in Ghana. It’s profound. It’s revealing,” he said.
The Prime Minister also recounted a remarkable encounter with Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, which prompted him to reflect on possible ancestral ties.

“…I met a distinguished lady and inquired about who she was because she looked so much like my aunt. As I approached her, I was told she was the Vice President of Ghana. So I’m really beginning to think that my family might have come from here,” he added.
