Baafi blames Mahama's appointment of Gbevlo-Lartey for Ghana's 'downfall'

Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South and Ranking Member on Parliament's Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee, has alleged that the appointment of Larry Gbevlo-Lartey as Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States by President John Dramani Mahama marks the beginning of Ghana’s downfall in terms of security.

According to Baafi, the President’s association with the Alliance of Sahelian States is the cause of Ghana’s current problems.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV, footage of which has been widely shared on social media, Baafi stated that Ghana is a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

According to him, despite ECOWAS’ aim of ensuring member countries adhere to its rules, the President is “doing business” with the Alliance of Sahelian States by appointing an envoy to operate within the region.

“President Mahama is a proud member of ECOWAS. Do you know that ECOWAS has suspended Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger to compel them to rejoin the union?

“These countries, however, have rebelled against ECOWAS and formed the Alliance of Sahelian States. For the first time in history, President Mahama has appointed an ambassador Larry Gbevlo-Lartey to this alliance, that appointment is the cause of Ghana’s downfall. Mahama has really caused pain to Ghana,” Baafi explained.
