The government has assured Ghanaians that all individuals found culpable in the alleged illegal mining taxation scheme will face prosecution, regardless of their status or political affiliation.
According to myjoyonline.com report on February 9, 2026, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, stressed that the government will not shield anyone involved in wrongdoing.
“Once evidence of wrongdoing comes to light, you’d be taken up. It doesn’t matter who is involved. Whilst there’s evidence of wrongdoing, the law will take its course,” he said.

Kwake Ofosu cited the ongoing prosecution of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as an example of the government’s commitment to accountability.
“As I speak to you, a prominent figure in Ghanaian society is standing trial over allegations of his involvement in galamsey,” he added.
He further emphasised that the president has directed that justice should take its course once wrongdoing is established, underscoring the administration’s resolve to uphold the rule of law in the fight against illegal mining.
