Goalkeeper Lawrence Osei Baffour has detailed how he quietly planned and executed his departure from Ghana, insisting that there was nothing sudden or unpatriotic about his move to the United States.

The Heart of Lions goalkeeper, whose absence sparked widespread speculation, explained that the process had been in motion for months before the public became aware.

“When I got my visa, my dad asked me when I wanted to travel to the USA. I told him he should allow me to play the first round of GPL games first,” Osei revealed.

True to his word, the 30-year-old remained with the Kpando-based club through the opening round of fixtures.

He also honoured a national call-up, featuring for the Black Galaxies in South Africa despite having already secured his travel documents.

According to Osei, the final decision came after a family visit.

“After the first round, my cousin came to Ghana, so my dad told me to come to the USA with him,” he said.

Addressing claims that he had only just arrived in America, Osei clarified that he has been away longer than many believe.

“It’s been three weeks since I arrived, but people think it’s just been days. I’ve had this visa since October 2025, yet I still stayed to serve my club and even represented Ghana with the Black Galaxies in South Africa.”
