Mussa Dankwah demands OSP probe into Ayawaso East Primaries

Mussa Dankwah is the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics

Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has intensified the pressure on the government following the Ayawaso East NDC primaries, insisting that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) must investigate what he describes as "criminal interference" in the democratic process.

The call for a criminal probe follows a weekend of high-stakes political drama that saw the narrow victory of Baba Jamal, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, and his subsequent recall by President John Dramani Mahama.

The primaries was characterised by scenes of chaos and visible "inducements."

Witnesses and media reports confirmed that Baba Jamal’s campaign team distributed 32-inch Television Sets and boiled eggs to delegates participating in the poll.

When confronted with the allegations, Baba Jamal remained defiant, describing his actions as a long-standing personal tradition of generosity rather than an attempt to buy votes.

“So if you give television sets to people, what is wrong with it?” he asked.

“You think you can bring all these people together and not give them water? It is not the item; it is the intention,” he argued.

Mussa Dankwah, however, rejected this defence, arguing that treating such acts as mere administrative lapses undermines the presidency's "Reset Agenda."

He insisted that the president must refer the matter to the OSP to prove his commitment to accountability.

“Administrative sanctions are insufficient,” Dankwah posted on Facebook on February 7, 2026.

“The president must refer what happened in Ayawaso East to the OSP if we are to take the reset agenda seriously,” he said.

While the NDC’s General Secretary has launched an internal party investigation, President Mahama has already taken executive action.

By recalling Baba Jamal from his diplomatic post in Nigeria, the Presidency signaled that while several candidates were accused of vote-buying, a serving public officer is held to a distinct ethical standard.

The primaries saw a 431-vote win for Baba Jamal against 399 for Hajia Amina Adam.
