A 71-year-old United States citizen, identified as John, who touched hearts online with his emotional departure from Ghana, has shared an update upon his return.
John went viral weeks ago after videos surfaced showing him in tears as he prepared to leave Ghana, a country he described as home and one he had grown deeply attached to.

His emotional farewell ignited conversations on social media about the growing number of Americans choosing to live in Ghana and the strong bonds many develop with the country.
In a recent follow-up video shared on X by Ask Ghana on February 3, 2026, John confirmed that he has safely returned to the US.

He offered a glimpse into how he continues to honour his connection to Ghana even from afar.
“I’m home now; I’ve put up my Ghana flag and my US flag. Even my doors are decorated, red, white and blue, and red, black, yellow and green for the Ghana flag,” he stated.
Reflecting on his affection for both countries, John said Ghana and the United States remain united in his heart.
“Ghana and US one with John,” he said warmly. “I love you all.”
