Illegal drugs valued at GH¢2.4 million have been destroyed by the Northern Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Tamale.

The drugs, which were burnt at the Gbalahi Field, were part of efforts by NACOC to eradicate drug trafficking in the Northern Regional capital and curb its abuse by individuals.

According to a 3news.com report, the exercise involved the destruction of various narcotic substances seized during operations carried out by the Commission in collaboration with other security agencies.

NACOC said the exercise was conducted under orders of the Circuit Court following the successful prosecution and conviction of suspects connected to the seized drugs.

The drugs destroyed included large quantities of marijuana and synthetic opioids such as tramadol and its variants.

Specifically, the haul comprised 664 boxes and 13 blisters of Tafradol 120mg, 260 boxes and eight blisters of TramaKing, 30 blisters of tramadol, and 11 boxes of Royal 225mg, with a combined estimated street value of over GH¢2.4 million.
