Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Nigeria international Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in a deal worth £30.3 million, with the forward penning a contract that runs until June 2030.
The 28-year-old arrives in Spain after an impressive three-year spell in Serie A, where he scored 55 goals and provided 27 assists following his 2022 move from RB Leipzig.
His most memorable contribution came in 2024, when he netted a stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy.
Lookman’s move to La Liga makes him the first English-born player to have featured in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga.
Only 21 players have played across those four major leagues, while just three, Christian Poulsen, Justin Kluivert and Stevan Jovetic, have appeared in all of Europe’s “big five” leagues.
Born in Wandsworth, London, on 20 October 1997, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic in 2015 before earning a move to Everton, where he scored on his Premier League debut.

He later joined Leipzig permanently after a successful loan spell and also spent time on loan at Fulham and Leicester City before revitalising his career in Italy.
A versatile right-footed attacker, Lookman can operate as a second striker or on either wing, using his pace and dribbling ability to devastating effect.
Internationally, he represented England at youth level, winning the Under-20 World Cup in 2017, before switching allegiance to Nigeria, making his senior debut in 2022. In 2024, he was crowned African Footballer of the Year.
