The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Okaikwei North, Christian Tetteh Badger, had a day to forget when Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, paid a surprise visit to his area.
The MCE was publicly rebuked by the minister for allegedly failing to ensure proper measures were in place for the observance of “Sanitation Day.”
A video of the incident captured Linda Ocloo expressing her displeasure and chastising the MCE.
“In this district, we have a lot of issues as far as sanitation is concerned, and even this morning attests to that fact. As MCE, you said you don't know that today is Sanitation Day. It's your MC that mobilises the people. If not your Honourable Member who mobilised, I'm not sure we'd be here even today. Meanwhile, it is your responsibility to make sure the district is clean, and that is why you are there,” she said.
“Eiii, getting a position doesn’t mean you should be relaxing in your air-conditioned office. Some of you will be in coats which you cannot breathe in,” she fumed.

The regional minister also warned that sanitation will be a key metric by which President John Dramani Mahama will assess local government appointees.
“His Excellency’s reset agenda requires that you move and get connected to the grassroots. Move around in terms of sanitation, and that's the KPI His Excellency will be using very soon,” she added.
