The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has held its end-of-year get-together at the Burma Camp Sports Complex, bringing together personnel from key security and regulatory agencies in a show of unity and renewed resolve against illegal mining (galamsey).

The event themed around team building and reflection, featured activities including basketball, volleyball, beachball, indoor games (ludo), table tennis, draughts, and a female penalty shoot-out, providing a brief moment of relaxation for participants.

Speaking at the gathering, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, praised NAiMOS for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment in the fight against galamsey throughout 2025.

He described their work as "critical to protecting Ghana's environment and future generations," adding that their dedication has yielded tangible results in curbing illegal operations across the country.

Buah assured the team of continued government support, stating, "In 2026, we will provide all the necessary resources and backing to ensure you succeed.

This fight is far from over, and the Ministry stands firmly behind you."

Colonel Dominic Buah, Director of Operations for NAiMOS, before addressing the gathering, led a moment of silence for Private Collins Agyapong Safo, who lost his life fighting galamsey, and honoured injured colleagues.

He also urged personnel not to relent despite the festive Christmas season.

"Even as we celebrate, we must keep the spirit burning," he said.

"Galamsey operators do not take holidays, so neither can we.

Stay vigilant and committed – the nation is counting on us."

Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Minerals Commission, NAiMOS, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, National Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control Commission, and civilian establishments such as Patriotic Journalists Against Galamsey (PAJAG).

The event underscored the inter-agency collaboration driving Ghana's anti-galamsey campaign, with organisers emphasising that moments of camaraderie strengthen resolve for the challenges ahead in 2026.
