Presidential running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections and former Minister of Education and Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has reiterated his commitment to mentoring young and aspiring leaders, stressing that Ghana’s democratic future rests in the hands of principled, disciplined, and patriotic professionals.

Dr Prempeh made these remarks when he received members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Law Students Union of Mountcrest University College on a courtesy visit earlier in the afternoon of Monday, December 15, 2025.

The engagement, he noted, focused on the enduring role of the legal profession in Ghana’s democratic journey, highlighting the critical contribution of lawyers in shaping the country’s constitutional framework, defending democratic institutions, and holding power accountable.

“From the foundations of our Constitution to the protection of our democratic institutions, Ghana’s progress has been driven by lawyers who consistently chose principle over pressure and country over comfort,” Dr Prempeh stated.

He explained that engaging young legal minds strengthens his belief that the future of Ghana’s democracy depends on thoughtful, disciplined, and patriotic professionals who understand their responsibility to serve the national interest.

According to him, this sense of duty and commitment to the rule of law is exactly what Ghana requires at this defining moment in its democratic evolution.

Dr Prempeh encouraged the students to uphold integrity, professionalism, and national service as core values as they prepare to enter the legal profession, assuring them of his continued support for youth leadership development and mentorship.

He reaffirmed that leadership must be grounded in service, accountability, and respect for democratic principles, adding that investing in the next generation of leaders remains central to his public service vision.
