Matthew Nyndam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a slim win-advantage of winning the Kpandai by-election, ahead of his closest contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This is according to the latest poll from renowned pollster, Mussa Dankwah, of the Global InfoAnalytics.
Sharing this new information via an X post, Mussa indicated that this first poll gives the embattled sitting Member of Parliament of the area a 4-point lead.
This narrow lead places him ahead of the NDC’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal, whose individual move to test the law is what has put the Kpandai parliamentary seat in the fix it is now.
“First poll for the Kpandai re-run shows NPP's Mathew Nyindam hold a 4 points lead over NDC's Daniel Wakpal, meaning the race is statistical tied as the margin of error is 3.9%.
“Nyindam 50%, Wakpal 46%, Other candidate, 1% Undecided 3%,” the tweet stated.
For clarity, on January 30, 2025, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the 2024 Election, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, filed a petition at the Tamale High Court challenging the declaration of New Patriotic Party’s Mathew Nyindam as Member of Parliament-elect for the Kpandai Constituency.
'Fight' breaks out in Ghana's parliament
According to the petition, the parliamentary election results were invalid due to irregularities and inconsistencies in some of the pink sheets.
The suit highlighted that Forms 8A (Regulations 32(7) and 39(2)) for 41 out of 152 polling stations contained discrepancies.
Wakpal argued that the December 7 election violated Regulation 39 of the Public Elections Regulations 2020 (CI 127), affecting the outcome of the vote.
He sought an order from the High Court to nullify the declared results in the affected polling stations and mandate a rerun of the election in those areas.
The court president over by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, nullified the parliamentary election results and ordered a fresh poll within 30 days.
Following the ruling, lawyers for Nyindam filed for a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal.
Meanwhile, Parliament has officially notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency following the court's order.
