The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, has said China remains Ghana’s leading source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and continues to be the country’s largest trading partner.

He noted that thousands of Chinese enterprises have invested in Ghana’s economy, creating jobs and driving homegrown industrialization.

Tong Defa revealed that bilateral trade between the two nations reached an unprecedented US$11.8 billion in 2024, representing a year-on-year growth of 7.1%.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, he said; “China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner and major source of foreign investment. In 2024, bilateral trade reached an unprecedented high of 11.8 billion US Dollars, marking a year-on-year growth of 7.1%. Thousands of Chinese enterprises have invested locally, creating substantial employment while advancing homegrown industrialization.”

He further pledged that China will continue to promote high-standard opening up, strengthen mutual exchanges across sectors with African countries, and create new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Tong Defa added that the Chinese Embassy will collaborate with Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) in 2026 to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation, making it a fruitful year for people-to-people relations.

Speaking in the same vein, the Deputy Chairman of GHACHIFA, Tang Hong, described Ghana as the “second home” of the Chinese community.

He expressed concern over the challenges faced by their members in Ghana, noting the emotional toll it takes on the community.

“Ghana is our second home. This land has nurtured us, and its people have accepted and welcomed us. When we see our family members suffering, our hearts are pained just like yours. It is this concern that drives the Chinese community in Ghana to act swiftly,” he said.

He stated that the Chinese Embassy, together with the wider Chinese community, initiated a fundraising campaign that raised over GH¢1 million.

The funds were used to provide food, drinking water, medicine, and other essential supplies to victims in need, offering tangible support and comfort during difficult times.
