Executives from the Federation of Coconut Farmers Association have embarked on a field inspection tour of ongoing coconut farms in the Volta and Oti Regions under the free seedlings initiative championed by President John Dramani Mahama under the Presidential Initiative on Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA)

The team expressed strong satisfaction with the progress of the farms visited, particularly in the Volta Region, where farmers have made notable strides in expanding coconut cultivation.

The Chairman of the Coconut Farmers Association in the Volta Region, who also doubles as Chairman of the Ho West Development Association and the Kpedze Youth for Development Association, Togbe Duneyo I (George Ofori), emphasised that coconut farming historically began in the Volta Region before spreading to other parts of the country.

According to him, “it is time for the region to reclaim its rightful place as Ghana’s leading coconut-producing hub.”

Togbe Duneyo I revealed that he and his team are rolling out a major investment programme aimed at attracting investors from the diaspora and business partners across the world.

The initiative, dubbed Volta Coconut Industries and Resort, seeks to establish thousands of acres of coconut plantations, processing facilities for coconut oil and a tourism resort.

He described the project “as one of the biggest investments ever planned for the Volta Region and a significant step towards local job creation.”

The chairman appealed to chiefs and landowners in the region to collaborate with the association to help create sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.

Togbe Duneyo I expressed gratitude to Kwaku Boateng the Vice President for the Coconut Federation Ghana and his team for their continuous support to coconut farmers in the region.

He further acknowledged the chiefs and landlords of Tafi for their unwavering support.

He assured them that the upcoming coconut projects would soon transform Tafi and surrounding communities, ushering in greater prosperity.
