The Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections and former Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has extended heartfelt appreciation to Ghana’s farmers as the nation marks Farmers’ Day.
In a message shared on his official Facebook page, Dr Prempeh celebrated the vital contributions of farmers whose daily labour feeds the nation, supports the economy, and sustains millions of families across Ghana.
“Today, we honour the men and women whose hands sustain our nation’s growth and nourish every Ghanaian home.
"To every farmer across the country, your labour anchors our food security and strengthens our economy. May your fields flourish, your yields increase, and your contributions continue to move our nation forward,” he wrote.
Dr Prempeh emphasised that farmers remain the backbone of Ghana’s agricultural sector, playing a crucial role in food production, employment, export earnings, and rural development.
He noted that their work is even more significant in an era of climate uncertainties and global supply pressures.
He acknowledged the challenges farmers face—rising input costs, climate change impacts, and limited access to credit—yet praised their resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to producing food for the nation.
Across the country, this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration is being marked by durbars, award ceremonies, and community events honouring outstanding farmers whose achievements continue to uplift Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
Dr Prempeh urged for greater support and investment in the agricultural sector to ensure farmers receive the tools, resources, and infrastructure necessary to thrive.
“Ghana stands tall because our farmers stand strong,” he said, reaffirming their central role in national progress.
As the country pays tribute to its food producers, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh extended his warmest wishes to all farmers, “Happy Farmers’ Day to all Ghanaian farmers. Your hands grow our nation.”
