The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has reportedly said that he will vacate his seat in Parliament should the Speaker of Parliament rule for such a directive.
According to a news card shared by JoyNews on Facebook on November 26, 2025, the lawmaker, who is a member of the Minority Caucus, is reported to have said: “If the Speaker rules that I should vacate my seat, I will respect it.”
High Court orders rerun of Kpandai parliamentary election
This follows a ruling by the Tamale High Court annulling his election as the MP for Kpandai and ordering a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election within 30 days from Monday, November 24, 2025.
The ruling came after a petition filed by the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who challenged the validity of the 2024 Election results.
Despite Nyindam’s reported remark, the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has vowed to challenge the Tamale High Court’s decision annulling the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.
The caucus leader described the ruling as flawed and an affront to democratic legitimacy.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Wednesday, November 26, Afenyo-Markin reassured the Kpandai constituents that their Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, remains the sitting MP and a fully active member of both Parliament and the Minority Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“No person, no institution, and certainly no flawed judicial order can suspend the mandate you freely and lawfully conferred upon him.
"Unless and until the appellate process, properly invoked and fully exhausted, runs its lawful course, he will continue to serve you with dedication and dignity,” he said.
The Minority Leader stated that the party would lawfully resist any attempt to bar Nyindam from representing his constituents, whether such attempts are 'subtle or brazen.'

“Let me state, this emphatically and without equivocation: the Minority will lawfully resist any attempt, whether subtle or brazen, to bar him from representing his people.
"We will not permit democratic legitimacy to be overturned by judicial improvisation,” Afenyo-Markin added.
