An attempt by the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his legal team’s attempt to halt the criminal trial against him, pending the outcome of an appeal, has been dismissed by the Accra High Court.

Adu-Boahene, who is standing trial for multiple counts, including stealing, money laundering (alleged GH¢49.1 million), willfully causing financial loss to the state, and abuse of public office, asked the court to suspend the proceedings, through his lawyers.

He made this request pending the determination of an appeal over an earlier decision that denied his legal team access to certain disclosure materials.

However, during an appearance in court on Friday, October 17, 2025, the court declined the defence’s application for a stay of proceedings, myjoyonline.com reports.

The court’s decision to decline the request means that the criminal trial against Adu-Boahene will proceed as scheduled, even as the appeal is heard.

It also indicates that the prosecution will not be automatically halted.

Adu-Boahene’s legal team appealed a previous High Court ruling that denied them access to additional documents they claim are material and exculpatory.

They argued that without these documents, their client could not receive a fair trial and, therefore, asked the court to stay the ongoing criminal proceedings pending the appeal.

The disclosure dispute and the stay request have already featured in earlier hearings.

Adu-Boahene is facing 11 charges and accused of transferring GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau’s account to his personal account, among other offenses.
