The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr Mary Awusi, has reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to advocating for the passage of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act.
According to her, the passage of the Act would strategically drive investment and reinforce the Authority’s position as a leading investment promotion agency on the continent.
Speaking at the media launch of the Authority's 30th anniversary on September 18, 2025, Dr Awusi highlighted ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness to secure the passage of the Act.

"I am determined that the Authority will play an active role in drafting the Special Economic Zone policy and will continue to advocate for the enactment of the SEZ Act. The Honourable Minister of Trade is indeed working diligently on this policy, and the Authority has always been part of the process," she said.
Beyond the policy, Dr Awusi outlined her vision and plans to enhance the Authority’s visibility in order to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
"I will work to strengthen the branding and visibility of the Ghana Free Zones Authority by positioning it as one of the leading investment promotion agencies in Africa. As the first female CEO of the Authority, I am humbled by the responsibility to build on the legacy of the men who came before me," she added.
