During an interview on Starr FM on Friday, September 12, 2025, Akpaloo expressed surprise at the comfort he experienced while in detention, noting that he was served meals from Movenpick and Starbites throughout his stay.
“I had a comfortable time over there,” he said, adding that “… I was asking them to order me foods from Movenpick all the time. I was enjoying meals from Movenpick every evening and in the morning, they were getting me breakfast meals from Starbites.”
Akpaloo further likened his stay to being in the comfort of his own home, saying he had privacy where he was kept, with a washroom exclusively for his use.
“… I was the only one in the room with my toilet and bath. It was more or less like being in my own house,” he continued.
The politician added that his detention gave him time to reflect on his life, making him realise he was addicted to social media.
He said the experience helped him stay away from it, describing the period as a 'good exercise'.
“Honestly, it helped me because I didn’t know I was so addicted to my phone and social media. But then I realised that this exercise was good. It helped me to at least suspend my time from social media, so, it was a good exercise,” he added.
Akpaloo was arrested in a dawn operation at his Kumasi residence by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit, in collaboration with its Ashanti Regional Office.
