The Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Professor Micheal Kpessa-Whyte, on Friday, August 8, 2025, led a delegation of heads of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to visit and commiserate with the families of three prominent individuals who lost their lives in the recent military helicopter crash in Adansi Sikaman, Ashanti Region.
The delegation visited the families of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, three of the eight people who died in the crash of a Z-9 military helicopter on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The tragedy has plunged the nation into mourning.
The SOE delegation included leaders from institutions such as the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Ghana Publishing Company, National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Petroleum Commission, Ghana Gas, Ghana Supply Company, VALCO, Ghana Free Zones Authority, and Ghana Exim Bank, among others.
During the visit, the SOE heads expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting the late statesmen’s professionalism, dedication to national service, and longstanding collaboration with various government agencies.
Speaking to GhanaWeb Business at the residence of one of the late ministers, Professor Kpessa-Whyte described the loss as a profound shock to the government machinery and the nation at large.
“SIGA led this delegation to come and commiserate with the families, to express our condolences and sympathies to the mothers, wives, children, and all loved ones of the deceased. This is a devastating loss for all of us. We felt it was important at this time to show our solidarity and offer support,” he said.
He further stated that SOEs are committed to supporting the planning and execution of a befitting burial for the deceased.
“We also came to assure the families that all state-owned agencies and enterprises stand with them in this difficult time. We are united in grief and committed to ensuring that Ghana honours the memory of these illustrious sons of our nation,” he added.
The other victims of the crash were Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
President John Dramani Mahama has since announced that a state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra to honour the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
