Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, along with six others who perished in a helicopter crash earlier on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In an official statement issued from his office, the former president described the incident as a "shocking" national tragedy and offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues, and all Ghanaians.
"With all humility, I join the nation to mourn the shocking passing of Dr Edward Omane Boamah… and the six others who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash today, whilst on their way to perform a national duty," the statement read.
The crash of the Ghana Armed Forces' Z9 helicopter claimed the lives of eight individuals, including top government officials and military personnel.
The mortal remains of the deceased were flown from Kumasi to Accra.
The victims include Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, Former Central Regional Minister, Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
