Register all mining equipment or risk confiscation - Ministry of Interior warns

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior, has issued a directive requiring the registration of all mining machinery with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.

The move forms part of the ministry’s efforts to streamline and improve operations in the mining sector across the country.

According to a statement released on the ministry’s official website on July 15, 2025, any mining machinery that is not registered by the deadline will be confiscated by the State.

“As part of efforts to reform the mining sector in the country, all machinery used in mining activities must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by 1st August 2025. Equipment that remains unregistered after this deadline will be confiscated by the State,” the statement read.

The statement further noted that the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA have been instructed to begin enforcement and confiscation from August 2, 2025.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting internal security and upholding law and order in the country.

July 15, 2025 – The Government, as part of efforts to reform the mining sector in the country, All Machinery Used in Mining Activities Must be Registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by 1st August 2025. Equipment that remains unregistered after this deadline will be confiscated by the State.

The Ghana Police Service and DVLA have been directed to enforce this directive from 2nd August 2025 onward rigorously.

The general public, especially those who use mining machinery, are advised to take note and comply with the directive.

The Ministry of the Interior is committed to ensuring internal security and the maintenance of law and order in the country.
