The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, has confirmed that the government is actively engaging PayPal to whitelist Ghana and restore full access to its services.
Speaking during a live X Space discussion hosted by social media influencer KalyJay on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Minister revealed that official conversations have begun with PayPal’s Africa team.
“Just last week, my policy advisor at the ministry met with a senior official in charge of government operations for Africa from PayPal. We’ve started a conversation. They’ve given us a checklist, and we’re going to work with the Bank of Ghana to ensure we’re able to complete it,” he said.
The Minister acknowledged that previous efforts to fully onboard PayPal into Ghana’s financial ecosystem had stalled due to the country’s inability to meet certain technical and regulatory benchmarks.
However, he assured the public that this time, the Ministry is committed to completing all necessary steps to make PayPal operational in Ghana again.
The return of PayPal is expected to significantly ease online transactions for freelancers, small businesses, and digital entrepreneurs across the country, who currently face limitations in accessing the platform.
