Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has stated that the Collateral Registry has transformed access to financial services by enabling Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to leverage movable assets as collateral.

He said this innovation has opened up new credit opportunities for underserved groups, fostering job creation, business growth, and local economic development.

Speaking during the 15th anniversary celebration of the Collateral Registry in Accra on June 11, 2025, the BoG Governor highlighted the registry's pivotal role in bridging the information gap between borrowers and lenders since its inception.

Dr Asiama noted that the registry's impact extends beyond traditional banking, equalising access to finance and promoting economic empowerment.

"More than a registry, it has become a tool of empowerment," he said.

He stated that by providing access to credit for those previously excluded, the registry has made a significant contribution to Ghana's economic landscape.

He also highlighted the marked difference from 15 years ago, when rigid collateral requirements and inconsistent regulations restricted access to credit.
