The Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, has called for stronger cooperation with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), including prompt reporting of fires, respect for emergency personnel, and collective vigilance to ensure public safety.
In a press release dated May 4, 2025, Ag CFO Daniella expressed gratitude and solidarity to firefighters across the country, lauding their courage, professionalism, and sacrifices.
“Your dedication, bravery, and sacrifices in protecting lives, property, and the environment deserve the highest commendation,” she indicated.
Although International Firefighters' Day is globally observed on May 4, Ghana marked the occasion with a national celebration on May 5, 2025, culminating a week-long series of events to honour the nation’s fire service personnel.
She used the occasion to reflect on the lives and legacies of fallen colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Let us also use this occasion to reflect on the lives and legacies of our fallen colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” she added.
She urged firefighters to remain resilient and compassionate in the face of danger, drawing strength from the memory of those lost in service.
This year’s commemoration was held under the theme, “Appreciating Our Heroes: Say No to Firefighter Assault and Fire Truck Vandalism,” a call to action against increasing incidents of violence and damage directed at fire personnel and property.
Ag CFO Daniella also called on all to join in safeguarding the dignity, well-being, and effectiveness of Ghana's firefighters, emphasising that the nation must stand behind those who risk their lives daily to save others.
