President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Finance to release funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project to prevent flooding.
He issued the directive during a visit to Agavedzi in the Volta Region to assess the extent of destruction caused by tidal waves.
The President visited the affected area on Thursday, March 6, 2025, following the Independence Day celebration held at the Jubilee House.
Residents of Salakope, Amutinu, and Agavedzi have been displaced due to recent flooding in their communities.
In his remarks, the President stated, “I am going to ask the Finance Minister to allocate funding to commence phase two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project.”
He added, “There are two things we need to do: first, begin the construction of phase two of the defence wall; and second, resettle those whose homes have been affected. We will identify a more suitable location for the resettlement project.”
