Bolgatanga (U.E), Nov. 6, GNA - President John Atta Mills, on Saturday, advised the youth of Upper East Region to refrain from petty Squabbles and insults, which brings conflicts and retard progress. President Mills gave the advice, during the commissioning of a GHC450,000 Information, Communication and Technology Centre (ICT), in Bolgatanga, equipped with fifty computers and accessories. The President, who is on a two day working visit to the Upper East Region, joined the people to celebrate the region's golden Jubilee and urged the youth to take advantage of the facility to improve their skills and knowledge in ICT.
He said Government had a vision of investing in the people through education, since "it is the key that opens the door to progress and the future".
In view of this, government is doing a lot to make education available and attractive to all. The capitation grant, that makes primary education free to all, the school feeding programme, free text books and infrastructural development, are all geared towards improving education and eventually enhancing and strengthening the human resource of the country, he said.
Mr Stephen Baffoe, Public Relations Manager of Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund), main sponsors of the facility, reiterated the GETfund's commitment to promoting quality education in the country and said the facility would serve as a place of learning and information sharing, adding that, it was going to be opened for all.
