Evangelist Impregnates Pupil

A Kasoa-based evangelist-cum-teacher, Nana Agyemang Attafuah, sought permission from the parents of his pupil, who was also a patient under his care to attend an all-night prayer session in Accra with her only to make a hasty return to have sex with the pupil in his room at Kasoa and has now made her pregnant.

As a result, Attafuah, 24, has appeared before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on a charge of defilement of a child under 16. His victim (name withheld) is 13 and a pupil of a private school at Kasoa where Attafuah is a teacher.

Attafuah's plea was not taken and the presiding judge, Mr Nat K.E. Osam, remanded him in prison custody to appear again before him on August 19.

The prosecution had it that Attafuah, an evangelist, who lives in the same vicinity with his victim and her parents at Kasoa Estates is a teacher of the same school (name withheld) where the 13-year-old is a student.

The teen had chronic stomach pains for which Attafuah had been praying to cure her. At 8.30 p.m. on July 19, 2010, he sought her mother's permission to take the child for an all-night church service in Accra.

When they set off, Attafuah took the girl to his house under the pretext of changing his dress. But the moment they entered his room, Attafuah got the girl seated and told her that the healing anointing was within him so she should allow him to have sex with her in order for him to impart the anointing spirit into her.

Chief Inspector N.H. Kofie, the prosecutor, quoted Attafuah as having said that it was only through sexual intercourse that the anointing and healing spirit would cure her chronic stomach ache.

He said the girl resisted and attempted to escape but Attafuah locked the door and dragged her onto his bed.

After gratifying his lust on the poor girl, Attafuah warned her to keep mute over her ordeal or else she would die if she dared inform anyone.

Chief Inspector Kofie added that the girl was later found to be pregnant and when her parents quizzed her about it, she named Attafuah as the one who made her pregnant.

Her parent therefore, reported the matter to the Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Kasoa police who went for him.
