Govt studying report on Kosmos Agreement - Energy Minister

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - The Ministry of Energy on Friday said Government was studying a report submitted to it by a committee set up to study a request by Kosmos Energy and offer advice.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Dr Joe Oteng-Adjei, Minister of Energy, said "the management of Kosmos Energy on June 28, 2010 wrote to government requesting it to give its consent to a Sale and Purchase Agreement it had signed with ExxonMobil as part of its efforts to offload its shares in the Jubilee Fields".

It said Government subsequently set up a Committee to, among other things, study the request and advice government.

The statement said the Committee has since finished its work and presented its report to the Government, who is studying the report and would soon state its official position on the matter.

"Government wishes to assure the public that it would do whatever it takes within the law to protect the national interest at all times, " it said.
