Kufuor attends international media conference in South Africa

Accra, July 5, GNA - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has arrive d in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 14th Africa Highway Conference scheduled for July 4-7, at Rhodes University, Grahamstown.

A statement issued by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson, Office of Form er President Kufuor, said the conference was the largest gathering of Africa n journalists across the globe and had become a centre of deliberation on t he way forward for journalism, the media and information communication technology in Africa. This year's conference under the theme: "African Voices in the Globa l Media Space" would among other things see the launching of a tool-kit for

African Education and Communication Experts on Education in Africa by For mer President Kufuor.

The tool-kit has been published for the training of journalists and other media practitioners covering educational issues in Africa. The conference would also witness the launch of Africa Education Journalism Award to recognise the best articles on education published in

the African press.

President Kufuor, Guest of Honour at the conference, would speak on: 'African Media and Global Development Agenda.' A dinner would also be held in his honour to round off the conference

which would feature veteran South African anti-apartheid campaigner, Bish op Desmond Tutu, Professor Adam Clayton, Vice Provost for Globalisation at t he University of Southern Carolina, USA and Dr Diana Senghor a co-founder an d Director of PANOS Institute, the first independent international news age ncy and training centre in sub-Saharan Africa. About 400 journalists including about 10 from Ghana would be at the conference. President Kufuor returns home on July 8. 5 July 10
