Jake Is New NPP Chairman For Greater Accra

Accra, (Greater Accra) 9, Sept. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) at its regional congress elected Mr Jake Lantei Otanka Obestebi-Lamptey as its new chairman for Greater Accra. Mr Obestebi-Lamptey polled 51 votes as against Mr Stanley Nii Agyiri Blankson's 37. This was announced by Mr Nana Kofi Karikari of the electoral commission who conducted the election. The election nearly resulted in confusion when Mr Agyiri Blankson announced that the group of contestants on his ticket's withdrawal enbloc because Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey's team has a set programme which should not be interfered with by his team. Mr Joseph Agyenim-Boateng General-Secretary of the Party and chairman of the function objected to this and said, the constitution of the party does not recognise any group butindividuals for a post. At this point Mr Agyenim-Boateng asked for the continuation of the election. Mr Blankson's faction withdrew with the exception of Madam Mariama Karley Amui who defeated Alhajia Adisa 51- 36 for the post of women's organiser . This drew applause from the audience for her show of political maturity. Mr Albert Afaglo beat Mr Latif Tetteh Amanor 53 to 29 for the post of youth organiser. Mr Ben Ablorh Annan ,vice chairman, Nii Ayite Boafo, secretay Mr Kwesi Arthur , treasurer and Mr. Mohammed Quaye, organiser were elected unoppsed. In his acceptance speech, Mr Obestebi-Lamptey expressed his gratitude for the trust reposed in him. He said there is no loser in the election but rather the NPP is the winner and that they should all join hands to enable the party to win the next elections Mr Blankson thanked him and promised to support him for the good of the party. Mr Agyenim-Boateng who had earlier sworn the officials into office thanked members for showing political maturity. Among the observers were Mr. Osafo Marfo MP for Oda and Mr. Kan Dapaa shadow minister for mines and energy.

The executive and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Kpone Katamanso constituency has sent a message of congratulations to Mr Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey on his winning the Greater Accra Regional chairman. The letter signed by constituency chairman, Mr N.O. Asomani, expressed the hope that Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey and his executives would look up to God for guidance and live up to expectation by building NPP into a formidable party towards elections in the year 2000.
