Frimpong Boateng is the Flagbearer you can trust - declares Adu-Gyamfi

Accra, June 7, GNA - Mr Collins Yaw Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday described Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, flagbearer aspirant as "an accomplish man who can be trusted".

"Ghana's immediate electoral history revealed that no political party whether in government or in opposition can win elections based on the votes of its supporters but needed to attract majority of floating votes. "Floating voters, however, consider as priority the personality of the Presidential Candidate - trust, accomplishment, track-record, character, youthfulness and the vision for the nation before voting," Mr Adu-Gyamfi told newsmen in Accra.

He appealed to NPP delegates to consider the general picture of elections, saying "you are electing a Presidential candidate to contest against an incumbent candidate and other opposition candidates. We therefore need a Flag bearer without any questionable image to lead our great party to recapture power".

Mr Adu-Gyamfi reminded the NPP delegates that the Flagbearer of a party was not a birth right to be claimed, or based on any seniority or "aduru mesu," (it's my turn) philosophy but based on accomplishment, and the person capable of transforming the nation.

On why he was supporting the candidature of Prof Frimpong Boateng, he noted: "I was instrumental in ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor's campaign; I played a critical role in the 2008 Presidential Elections as well; I have a fair idea of why we lost an election which would have been easy to win.and am convinced that Prof Frimpong Boateng holds the key for us to recapture power in Election 2012.

"Masoa nsu, masoa nsa.mahu nea emu ye dru," he said,(meaning "I have carried both water and wine and I know which one is heavier) stressing that there were still some nagging questions the NPP woefully failed to answer during Election 2008 which endangered the party's campaign. "We need to avoid unnecessary sidetracking of our campaign by electing a Flag bearer with an unblemished reputation for Elections 2012". Mr Adu-Gyamfi lauded the effort of Prof Frimpong Boateng, which included the transformation of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital into a modern health facility, the establishment of the modern Cardio Centre, the management of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and the Ghana Red Cross.

He said, "I consider Prof Frimpong-Boateng as a leader who makes new things happen with broad sight and boldness, one who likes challenges and brings the best out of people, initiates actions, innovations, manifests achievable goals, and thinks strategically with others". Mr Adu-Gyamfi said the Flagbearer Aspirant respected other people's inputs and built dreams with aspirations. "He leads by example and is a moral leader who adopts the partnership approach with people and has a shared vision with others.

He said the NPP needed the likes of the world-renowned Cardiologist, the first person from Ghana to transplant a heart in the world (Germany, 1985), the first person to perform heart and lung transplant in Hanover, Germany (1988) as "our Flagbearer for Elections 2012".
