Government denies that Mills' brother uses police outriders

Accra, May 5, GNA - The Ministry of Information has described as false and a concocted lie a report in the Daily Searchlight newspaper of Wednesday, May 5, 2010 that Dr. Cadman Mills attended the funeral of the late B. J. da Rocha with police outriders and a number of vehicles. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the report was just one of many targeted at the person of President John Evans Atta Mills and "the report under reference is a total fabrication."

It said "Dr. Cadman Mills, who is a member of the President's Economic Advisory Council, did not attend da Rocha's funeral in Accra, let alone go there with a fleet of vehicles and a police outrider."

According to the statement, Dr. Mills is presently in the United States of America, and could not have been physically present at the said funeral. The statement cautioned the media against the growing publication of false and concocted information as news, adding "the desire of all is to see a reflection of the freedom of expression and free press being enjoyed by Ghanaians in the development of our dear country."

It also noted that while government would continue to ensure the development and improvement of the media in Ghana, the media, the Ghana Journalists Association and the National Media Commission must work to arrest the growing unprofessionalism in sections of the Ghanaian media.
