Regional Minister pledges support to journalists to unearth corruption

Ho, May 4 GNA - Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister at the weekend, challenged journalists working in the region, to expose corruption wherever they find it and base their reports on facts and not mere media speculation.

Mr Amenowode threw the challenge at an evening with the media held in Ho under the auspices of Mr Emmanuel Bedzrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho-West.

He said the region needed a lot of projection to bring out its competitive strength in various areas for tapping. Mr Amenowode said President John Evans Atta Mills has directed that all efforts should be made to get the Volta Star Textile Company, back to production as soon as possible. Mr Bedzrah said raising the standard of education in his constituency was his priority.

He announced that a technical school at Anfoeta-Gborgame is in the offing.

Mr Bedzrah said he had provided 40 computers to selected schools in the constituency to better the chances of the students in Information, Communication and Technology courses. Mr Bedzrah said he was in contact with MTN, a prime communication company in Ghana to help rehabilitate the Kpedze Health Centre, which is in a deplorable state.

He said he was liaising with the relevant sectors to get some roads in the area rehabilitated. The MP said the almost impassable Bame-Dzolokpuita road had been graded and would soon to be tarred, whilst the Anoe-Ashanti_Kpoeta road, is being tackled.

Mr Bedzrah pledged to support journalists seeking professional specialisation and pay 200 Ghana cedis to any of them who would pick up a prize at the fourth-coming Media Awards Day. Mr Victor Kwawukume, Chairman of the Volta Chapter of the Ghana Journalist Association demanded that the Volta Caucus in parliament show a more purposeful approach to tackle the problems of the region.
