Workshop for Police in Accra

Accra, March 29, GNA - The Fraternal Order of Police, an independent=

police support group dedicated to assisting the Ghana Police Service will=

organise a parallel workshop on the 12th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Accra.

The Workshop would be organised jointly with the Ministry of the Interior, the Judicial Service, the Attorney General's Department and Ministry of Justice, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Serious Fraud Office, Narcotics Control Board, Custo= ms and Excise and Preventive Service with the support of the United Nations Information Centre, Accra.

A statement in Accra on Monday said the main Crime Congress will tak= e place in Salvador, Brazil with the Brazilian Government as the host. The theme for the 12th Congress is: "Comprehensive Strategies for Global Challenges: Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Systems and thei= r Development in a Changing World."

The Accra Workshop would formally opened by the Chief Justice, Justi= ce Georgina Theodora Wood and co-chaired by the Minister of the Interior and=

the Brazilian Ambassador in Ghana.

It would address topics including children, youth and crime, crimina= l justice responses to the smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons=

and links to trans-national organised crime.

Crime congresses have been held every five years since 1955, in different parts of the world and have contributed to shaping internationa= l and domestic policies and promoting novel thinking and approaches to comp= lex issues at the heart of one of the key institutions of the modern state: t= he criminal justice system. The 12th Crime Congress marks the 55th anniversary of United Nations=

congresses on crime prevention and criminal justice.
