MWCA appeals to the Police to investigate murder of women

Accra, March 24, GNA - The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs (MWCA) on Wednesday, appealed to the Police to conduct thorough investigations and ensure the culprits in the gruesome murder of some women were arrested and prosecuted. Additionally, it appealed to the public to be vigilant and report such criminals in their neighbourhoods to the Police. The Ministry made the appeal in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs. Adiza Ofori-Adu, its Public Relations Officer, which expressed shock and concern about the alleged murder of two women recently. One of the victims is Madam Alice Nimo, a 42-year-old Primary School teacher at her residence at North Nkwabeng, a suburb of Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The other is 28-year-old Naomi Hammond at Tabora-Chantan, an Accra suburb.

The statement said the late Madam Nimo, a teacher at Stadium Primary School in Sunyani was allegedly shot dead in her room by two unidentified gunmen at dawn, last Friday. It said following a report by the 11-year-old niece of the deceased and some elders within the neighbourhood, the police rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with her hands and legs tied. There were also stripes all over her body indicating that she was whipped. The statement said the late Ms. Hammond was found dumped in a refuse container in front of a house last Saturday with the corpse drenched in blood with her limbs and neck broken.
