Offshore Jubilee Project makes progress

Accra, March 22, GNA - Subsea installations by Tullow Ghana Limited, Operator of the Jubilee Field, on the offshore Jubilee Project, continues on schedule with the laying of the umbilicals by the Olympic Triton now well under way.

The umbilicals are a collection of steel pipes which carry inert fluids to control the subsea valves, and chemicals designed to ensure that oil flows properly to the surface. The oil is processed on the Floating Production Storage and Offload vessel, currently under construction in Singapore, and due in Ghana in June this year.

The umbilicals also contain power and signal cables that transmit signals from the meters many kilometres away from the production vessel, and on the seabed, up to about 1.7km deep.

Two large reels of offshore umbilicals were loaded onto the installation vessel Olympic Triton, from the lift vessel, Happy River, in= the port of Sekondi in the Western Region. Each reel weighs over 250 tonnes and is lowered onto the installation vessel to land exactly in a prescribed position.

The quayside at the Sekondi Naval Base was completely refurbished last year by Tullow Ghana Limited using local contractors, to allow the naval port to be used more safely for such load out operations.

The Jubilee Project remains on schedule to deliver oil by year end. Tullow with 49.95 per cent interest operates the Deepwater Tano licence and is partnered by Kosmos Energy (18 per cent), Anadarko Petroleum (18 per cent), Sabre Oil and Gas (4.05 per cent) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10 per cent carried interest).
