Chief applauds government for re-construction of road

Agona Swedru, March 15, GNA - Nana Obokuma-Atta IX, the chief of Gomoa Dasum, has praised the government for rebuilding the Fawomanye/Gomoa Akotsi road. The road is among those in the Central Regional being rehabilitated under the Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) programme. Nana Obokuma-Atta was speaking to the reporters after addressing the four-day National Women Convention of the Muzama Disco Christo Church at Agona Swedru. The chief said during the 1980s and 90s most of the vehicles from Akim Oda and Breman Asikuma to Agona Swedru plied the road but they stopped using it in 2000 when the road deteriorated.

He expressed the hope that with its rehabilitation, brisk business would resume in the area. He appealed to the government to vigorously pursue the Youth in Agriculture Programme to stop the youth from migrating to urban centres. "This policy, when properly implemented, can create more job opportunities and wealth for the youth and also boost agriculture." Nana Obokuma-Atta appealed to the Akyempim Rural Bank, Agricultural Development Bank and other financial institutions to assist farmers to expand their farms.

He said majority of the farmers found it difficult to offer collaterals to the banks to secure loans and this had become a setback for farmers nationwide. He appealed to farmers to form co-operatives and other relevant groups to enable them to access credit facilities.
