PNC urges government to widen tax net

Sunyani (B/A), March 2, GNA - Mr Bauh Inusah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), on Tuesday urged government to widen the tax net in order to increase its revenue mobilization efforts.

Commenting on the increase in road and bridge tolls by government, he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani that they were too high.

According to him, more revenues could be generated rather through broadening the tax net explaining that many people including businesses did not pay tax in the country.

He said efforts should be made to also bring into the net workers in the informal sector since majority of them were not captured under the current regime of tax collection.

"Many people cry that government is not developing the country but they are not paying their taxes", Mr Inusah said. He said PNC is a social-democratic party and would bring policies that would make Ghanaians more comfortable. 2 March 10
