Ghanaian Delegation Visits Troops In South Lebanon

A six-man delegation led by Air Vice Marshal Christian Dovlo, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), visited Ghanaian troops serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from 17-19 February 2010.

As part of the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Force Commander of UNIFIL, Maj Gen Alberto Asarta Cuevas. The Force Commander commended Ghana’s contribution to UNIFIL and also the professionalism and dedication to duty being exhibited by the Ghanaian Contingent. He added that the UNIFIL still expects high standards from the Contingent.

Subsequently, the delegation was given a detailed brief on UNIFIL operations after which they visited the UNIFIL Sector West Headquarters and interacted with the Commander, Brig Gen Luigi Francavilla.

The Ghanaian delegation also participated in Ghanbatt 71 Medals Presentation Parade which was held at AL-QAWZAH, South Lebanon on Thursday 18 February 2010. Ghana’s Honorary Consul in Lebanon, His Excellency Michel Haddad and the Defence Advisor based in Egypt, Air Commodore Issifu Kadri also graced this memorable occasion.

Prior to departure from South Lebanon, the delegation visited some Ghanbatt positions along the ‘Blue Line’ and interacted with troops at an all ranks durbar.

The members of the delegation comprised: Commodore Timothy Appiah, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command and also 2 Garrison Commander and Brig Gen Obed Akwa, Commander of the Ghana Military Academy.

The rest were: Colonel Peter Senchim, Director of Education at the General Headquarters, Wing Commander Peter Asafo, the Officer Commanding Engineering Wing at the Air Force Base, Accra and Flight Lieutenant Ekow Anaman, the Aide–Camp to Air Vice Marshall Dovlo.
