Tullow renovates Biology laboratories

Accra, Feb. 22, GNA - Tullow Ghana Limited has renovated the Physics , Chemistry and Biology laboratories of the Half-Assini Secondary School in the Jomoro District of the Western Region at the cost of A3250,000. The company has also equipped all the three laboratories to facilitate the academic work of the school as laid out in the school curriculum. A statement issued by Mr Gayheart Mensah, Communications Manager of the company in Accra, on Monday said to ensure uninterrupted operations of th= e laboratories Tullow Ghana has provided a water tank to ensure constant availability of water.

In 2007 the company undertook a borehole project in the school to help resolve the challenges that students were confronted with in having acces to safe drinking water. "The science laboratory project by Tullow Ghana Limited is an acknowledgement of the importance of science and technology in today's world," the statement said. It said it was also a commitment of Tullow Ghana Limited to help develop the required set of knowledge, skills and competence that will support the emerging oil industry in Ghana.

"It will help to impact the knowledge of science to students of Half-Assini Secondary School in a learning environment that supports the study of science, and in a manner that will improve upon their school's academic performance in the area of science," the statement said. Tullow Oil Plc. Speaking to the staff and students during the visit, Mr. Dai Jones expressed appreciation for the gesture of the Half-Assini Secondary Schoo= l to share their new laboratory facilities with two other secondary schools= in the community.

Mr. Dai Jones reiterated that as a company that focuses on the exploration and production of oil and gas, Tullow Ghana Limited is interested in strengthening science education in the areas where it operates. "It is our desire and policy to ensure that Ghanaians are in charge o= f our operations in this country. We can only do that if we take the study of science and technology a little more serious at the secondary level throu= gh to the tertiary level", Mr. Dai Jones said. He said the facilities provided for the school would not be the end o= f the company's involvement with education in the community, since Tullow Ghana Limited is in Ghana for a long haul. "We would continue to support the development of education in whateve= r way we can. We will also invest in the health of Ghanaians, in entrepreneurial development and national resource governance", he said. 22 Feb.
