Anglican Church honours Nkrumah with malaria programme

Kwamoso (E/R), Sept. 22, GNA - As part of activities to mark the Centenary Celebration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah's birthday, the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church on Monday launched the first phase of the church's support for malaria prevention at Kwamoso, a farming community in the Akuapem North District.

Under the project, the Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organization (ADDRO) distributed 600 treated mosquito nets to households, mothers, children and pregnant women in the community. Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA), Reverend Fr. Edward Asamani, the Koforidua Diocese Coordinator of ADDRO, explained that the project is the church's contribution towards government's efforts to help reduce malaria infections in the country and reduce maternal mortality. He said next year, ADDRO would distribute 400,000 treated mosquito nets in the whole of the Eastern Region, especially in the rural areas. Rev. Fr Asamani explained that, the project is being launched on such a historic date, because of the importance of the project and the seriousness, which the church attaches to it. 22 Sept 09
