"One Ghana Unity Flag" arrives in Wa

Wa, Sept. 12, GNA - The "One Ghana Unity Flag", arrived in Wa on Friday and attracted a large crowd including heads of department, security personnel, the youth, students and a cross section of the general public who ushered in the event organisers from Bamahu to Wa. They went through some principal streets in Wa and finally converged at the Wa-Naa Sidiki Bomi' Park, now known as the Jubilee Park, where the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Kale Cezar appended his signature on the flag before others also scrabbled on the six feet by 100 feet flag.

The event is an activity instituted by President John Atta Mills to mark the 100th birthday celebrations of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first President of the Republic of Ghana. Speaking at the event, Mr Cezar described President Nkrumah, as a great thinker and a hero, who sacrificed his life for the good of his people in particular and Africa as a whole. He said the people of the region were greatly associated with the works of President Nkrumah and thanked President Mills for honouring Dr. Nkrumah, which he said was long overdue.

"We can't wish away the economic, political and cultural emancipation he brought to us", Mr Cezar said and appealed to students to learn from Dr. Nkrumah and know that "it pays to be hard working and selfless".

"Let the unity and peace that President Nkrumah fought for and won for Ghanaians be sustained at all cost to enable us to achieve the aspirations and needs of the people", the Deputy Minister added. Mr Cezar appealed to the people of Bawku to give peace a chance by sacrificing their grievances to achieve peace to benefit the people. "Let the youth not engage themselves in conflict. Let us begin to construct the path that will be of a good image, free from violence and conflict", he advised. Mr Anastas Anderson, of Infiniti Communications, Organisers of the event, urged Ghanaians to use Dr. Nkrumah's birthday celebrations to open a new chapter in the life of the nation, saying the "One Ghana unity call of Dr. Nkrumah must be sustained. The Organisers will leave Wa for Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region for a similar exercise and the flag would finally arrive in Accra on September 21.
